LockeSmith is a publication of Students For Liberty North America’s Hazlitt House for Journalism and Content Creation.

Students For Liberty is the largest pro-liberty student organization in the world. Students For Liberty North America supports pro-liberty student groups in the U.S. and Canada by providing them with leadership training, philosophical and economic education, and a network of like-minded peers and mentors.

LockeSmith’s goal is to established a positive vision of liberty and outline a program for its defense against illiberal forces. In upholding this mission, we seek to provide a platform for liberty-minded students to publish their ideas.

Dillon T. Bergmann

Dillon Bergmann is a Political Science and Philosophy student at Washington State University, serving as the President of Hazlit House and Editor-in-Chief of LockeSmith. His writing explores the development of the modern National-State, Constitutionalism, State-Society relations, Philosophy of the State, Environmental Ethics from a Classical Liberal perspective, Pro-Liberty Foreign Policy, and Legislative bodies.

Mr. Bergmann’s work has appeared in LockeSmith, where he serves as the Managing Editor, along with being presented at the Pacific Northwest Political Science Association and Pi Sigma Alpha. In his most recent work has focused on the evolution of the understanding of rights and the foundations of government after the election of Andrew Jackson, showing how these ideas materialized in the Oregon Constitutional Convention; and the role that John Locke’s notions of property can give shape to a more nuanced understand of humanity’s relationship to nature.

Outside of academia and University, Mr. Bergmann is active in his community. He is currently a High School Football, Baseball, and Softball Umpire. In addition, he serves as the Umpire manager for two Little Leagues (Cedar Mill and Pullman), creating new and innovative training tools.

In his free time he enjoys College sports; musical theater; Perry Mason, and other vintage TV shows; board games; Sid Meier’s Civilization, among with other historical grand strategy games; and simple walks in nature.
